Higley Impressed . Its a treasure for People who Love Exotic - Classic DishesCulinary traditions of India could be essentially included as the intangible cultural heritage assets in many respects. Avadh or Awadh region in Uttar Pradesh, India is famous for its culinary traditions, popularly known as Awadhi cuisine. The Book "Flavours of Avadh: Journey from the Royal Banquet to the Corner Kitchen" written by Salma Husain, presents the fascinating historical anecdotes of Awadhi cuisines drawn from royal kitchens of Awadh and Lucknow Nawabs. This book contains best of Awadhi cuisines, which include both vegetarian and non-vegetarian recipes. This book also highlights popular Awadhi street foods available at Awadh, Lucknow and Faizabad regions. A must read for food lovers and future Master Chefs.I went to every bookshop in Lucknow (initially unsuccessfully) to get a hold of this book recently, and finally managed to get a copy.. All I can say that it is a good effort as an attempt at recording a cuisine that remains highly secretive to this day and is in danger of dying out very very soon. However this does not detract from the fact the fact that there are multiple mistakes in the book both regarding quantities and grammar which make it difficult to make sense of. Moreover the graphics and overall design of the book make it difficult to even read the recipes properly. It seems to have been put together in a hurry..There are also significant omissions here - in spite of mentions of pasanda, yakhni pilau and kakori kebabs - there are no recipes provided for these stalwarts of non vegetarian awadhi cuisine. Also where are the recipes for afghani chicken, sheermal, namish, tawe ke parathe and more?I truly wish this book would have been the go-to book for lucknowi/awadhi recipes but sadly it is not much better than the equally badly written (yet still highly useful) dastarkhwan e awadh by sangeeta bhatnagar et al.Best book on avadh cookingFlavours of Awadh brings about the older culinary traditions from Awadh, tracing the history of the region. You find valuable insights of the Royal kitchens and their cuisines along with some very interesting recipes. I particularly loved that there are festive recipes of Holi and Eid along with the pickles most loved in the region. Just be careful about the measurements in the recipes as the older ways of measuring ingredients doesn’t translate well into modern measurements.Good information about foodGift for my loving family. Not so good as expected. Recipes are less.
