I absolutely love Fresh Sweet Pineapple, as does the rest of my family. I had purchased several whole pineapples and went through the painstaking process of cutting it up.. miserable is what that is.So, then we went to purchase the pre-cut pieces from our grocer and I'd find more and more pieces with the inedible core in the batch so we stopped buying it and gave up... until Del Monte published a coupon on coupons dot com with a deal for pineapples, buy two save $1.25, and our grocer had a sale on pineapples 2 for $2.50, we brought home 2 pineapples for $1.25!! I couldn't pass that up, was a fantastic deal!! but then I had to cut them up and I put that off until I figured out a better way to cut them up..I went to amazon.com later that night and I looked at what my options were and found this little guy! I ordered it and with my 2 day shipping I got it in time to cut them both up..It literally took a minute and a half to cut one of up, I was so excited! We can have fresh pineapple again!!!It is actually very very neat how this works, it does the corkscrew type drive into the fruit slicing a perfect circular chunk out of the center of the pineapple, sliced into about 1/4 inch deep circles.*You might want to do this in a clean sink, there is a lot of juice that will come out of your fruit*1) First you'll slice the cap off the pineapple2) Connect your handle to the top of the Slicer3) Locate the Core and center the core cut out over the top of the core4) Put Slight to moderate pressure and twist clockwise, fast or slow, doesn't matter, it will cut the same.5) Once you've hit the bottom of the fruit you'll know, the sound will change, or you'll break through the bottom with your blade, continue to turn clockwise and pull rather than push and you'll pull out a perfectly circular hollow tube of pineapple. (The core and the Exterior of the pineapple will be left in the fruit in most cases, in a few cases you might end up removing the core as well, don't worry about that yet)6) Take the Handle off the Cutter and place the dicer/wedger over the metal on top of a cutting board, or protected surface, otherwise the teeth on the bottom of the blade will cut into whatever you place it on7) SPEED MATTERS HERE: Quickly and swiftly press down as hard as you're able on the dicer/wedger and it will cut your pieces into chunks - just like you buy in a can of pineapple.Don't forget the remaining juice in the cored out fruit if you like that, if not you, maybe your kids or husband, my son jumped after it and so did my husband.~ If your core didn't come out when you pulled it from the fruit then take a wooden spoon or other item and stick in the NOT JAGGED EDGE of the slicer and gently push out, not to fast as not to jam your hand into the end of even the unsharp end. Be extremely careful, this item is sharp and metal.NUTRITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: Pineapple, raw (from pineapplefacts dot info)Pineapple is an excellent source of vitamin C and manganese. This thing rocks, and I'm going to quickly tell you why. I'm also going to give you a few tips (and clear up some misconceptions that I"ve read)AWESOMENESS:Looks cool!Dishwasher safe....boom!Metal teeth are way better than the plastic models you buy in the grocery store.Gut a pineapple in like 60 seconds flat. With a large pineapple, and a little practice, you can have AWESOME pineapple cups for your next luau party. Add your favorite tropical drink and a little straw...tropical boom!If you do it right, leaves you with a glass of delicious pineapple juice. Drink straight, or add a little vodka.Find a reason to use it when you have company and they will be impressed/curious/impressed & curious. The wedger? Are you kidding me? I love having pineapple wedges and it's just too easy.TIPS:1. Fresher pineapples are better to use. The reason? As your pineapple sits on your counter or in your fridge, the little "scales" that make up the pineapple skin start to separate and they're not as water tight. When you start to slice into your pineapple, you'll lose delicious juice through these "holes". Fresher pineapples have a nice tight skin that will not do this nearly as much.2. I read that the included wedger doesn't fit the slices. Umm...NOT TRUE. In fact, it fits while the slices are still coiled around the slicer!! I felt pretty special realizing that...ha ha. Now, the wedger is plastic unfortunately (would have been nice if it was metal and had a sharp side to it) but if you rock it back and forth, and work it down the slicer, you will be rewarded with beautiful professional pineapple chunks.3. Before I get into slicing, after I cut the top off the pineapple I usually set the slicer next to the pineapple to gauge how far into the pineapple that the slicer is going to go. If I don't go all the way into bottom of the pineapple, I reap the benefits below.4. To make sure you keep as much juice as possible, don't drill all the way into the bottom of the pinapple.5. To make sure that the center core of the pinapple stays IN the pineapple, don't drill all the way into the bottom of the pineapple.6. To make a cool pineapple glass as described above. First, make sure you start with large pinapples. Second, it may take some practice. Third, make sure you leave a decent amount of pineapple at the bottom...do not drill all the way down, and leave a good amount. It may be "wasted" pineapple, but you'll help to ensure that your cool glass doesn't spring a leak.7. Yes, you MIGHT wind up with a little of the solid core in your pineapple slices. To minimize this as much as possible, make sure you line up the core as much as possible when starting the slicer. Make sure you're going in "straight"...and by that I mean parallel to the core. Sometimes the pineapple sits crooked, so you'll have to take that into account. YOu can also slightly adjust your cutting as you're going, which may help if you get off track.Hope that helps. I love this slicer and I may start giving these away as gifts. It's the coolest thing you never new you needed.I was sceptical about how well this would work, but when it was reduced to nearly half the normal price on Amazon, I decided to buy one.Well, it works far, far better than I thought it would! The stainless steel cutter is well made and looks like it will last, although the top (removable) handle is made of plastic. To 'operate', you cut the top off the pineapple and screw the cutter in; you then pull the centre of the pineapple out on the cutter, take the handle off and slip the centre of the pineapple off the cutter/stainless steel corer. What you get is a long spiral of cleanly cut pineapple - no spiky bits or core - you can now slice it up as you wish, either with the enclosed (plastic - shame it's not stainless steel) cutter into chunks, or larger pieces with a knife.Quite amazing really - I never would have believed that it would manage to remove all the bits and core without leaving any, but it did! I used it on a 69p pineapple from Morrisons, kind of medium sized, my only concern is that if you used it on a large pineapple you might get more waste that you'd like. What the tool does though, is let you prepare a fresh pineapple in around 30 seconds without any of the mess and difficulty normally associated with it. So I'll be eating more pineapple in the future - no more throwing it out after a week when it starts to go mouldy!A well deserved 5*s!It is neat and clean and very simple to use. The blade is sharp and works well. The handle comfortable to hold and turn and easy to remove for washing. The template for cutting pieces works neatly enough (its not a knife but parts the pineapple flesh easily enough). I really should have bought one of these years ago. To use, on a flat surface (cutting board) I cut the top off the pineapple and line up the cutter vertically. A couple of turns and the blade bites into the flesh and turns it into a long spiral as you work its way to the bottom. Once at the bottom a firm pull and the spiral comes away on the handle and can be gently removed. The hard core stays inside the skin shell. You could carefully remove the core and use the shell as a cocktail server (like in the movies!!). The spiral becomes slices when a knife is cut through the ring on one side. Voila!I'm glad I got the stainless version of this. It was so simple to use, even on my first attempt! Just push, twist and pull! The green slicer is a little more difficult than the video suggests as you need more effort (well, I did anyway, perhaps the pineapple wasn't quite fully ripened) but it works brilliantly! One suggestion I would make is to pop a tea towel down or do it on a sink drainer top - it generates a lot of pineapple juice! Also, super easy to pop in the dishwasher afterwards! This was a gift for my pineapple loving partner. He used it last week and got the hang of it after some confusion over how to get started.Once the top of the pineapple is off and you put the tool together following the instructions, it is a matter of twist and shake. You twist (strong arms required) to turn it into slices, then press down the chunk-maker and shake the chunks aside.Keep something nearby for that delicious juice else it will drip everywhere! You end up with a nice whole pineapple to drink out of. Maybe a fruity cocktail?I love fresh pineapple but it is so expensive to buy pre cut and the hassle and mess of peeling puts me off buying it sometimes, not to mention the time it takes to prepare it.This gadget however has changed all that, it is so easy to use and reduces the mess and time taken to prepare a pineapple significantly. In less than a minute you can go from a whole pineapple to neat bite size pieces. There is still a little mess, how much depends on the ripeness of the pineapple, but it is just the juice that needs to be cleared up. The cleaning of the gadget is easy too, either put it in the dishwasher or just warm soapy water. The only downsizes are the width of the chunks are a bit thin, perfect for eating as a snack, but too thin for fruit kebabs etc and that sometimes the core of the pineapple is difficult to remove from the corer section. All in all, definitely worth it!!
