It is awesome but the bottom of the bucket is quite unstable. That means unless you have it suspended or in a flat environment it will spill and that is very annoying after walking 8-10 mins from the water source. The handle looks like its gonna tear but don’t let it fool you, it holds.Overall great item for backpackingIt works perfect for what I needed it for .I bought this to gather river water on a self-support kayak trip. This 10 liter bag it is compact, light and durable. However, don’t waste your time trying to use it freestanding. It has no support to stand on its own. It is best used hanging it in a tree by its handles. If no trees are available you’ll have to get creative. Remember 10 liters of water weighs 22 pounds so you will need something sturdy to hang it from. For my purposes this bag worked well. When I first got this folding bucket, I was afraid to fill it with water. The handle looked like it would rip right off, spilling water all over the place. So I tested its durability by filling it about a quarter of the way inside the bathtub. I figured if it is going to fall apart or burst, it would be a good idea to have it fail where the water will not do any damage. After a successful test, I filled it halfway with water. Then three-quarters of the way. Then I filled it almost all the way to the top--maybe 2.5 gallons worth. Then I tested its durability by holding it by the handle, then relaxing my arm and letting gravity have its way with it. But before it hit the tub, I yanked it back up by the handle. It still held up perfectly! Then I got daring and started walking around with it, careful not to let water slosh out of it onto my carpet. I then slowly, gingerly placed it on the carpet and let go of the handle. It stood up on its own and it seemed fairly stable. Then I grabbed it by the handle again and went to the bathtub to dump it out. I paused over the bathtub, thinking about whether the sides of this folding bucket were going to buckle on me while pouring the water out and end up drenching me in the process. But my sense of adventure overrode my caution so I placed one hand at the bottom of the bucket and tilted it over the bathtub to pour the water out.And it emptied without any spillage whatsoever. So now I am confident I can depend on this bucket to do all of its bucket duties (minus acting as a impromptu seat) without fail.A friend of my recently went on a backpacking trip with some friends and told me about a water bucket one of the guys had. I am going on a week backpack trip on the Colorado Trail with some friends and decided to try this bucket as sometimes I know the water source will be a ways from the campsite. On a recent two night camping trip I took the bucket - I won't camp without it again! Easy to fill in a shallow creek, it does, in fact sit upright when filled with water - overnight even - on a flat surface, has a little grab handle on one side to easily pour water into any container, even ones with a small opening. It is very light, and packs up very small in a zippered pouch. It seems quite sturdy. I would recommend.Love the lightweight of this bucket and it packs up small. However it does dump over easily. I even had an instance where wind blew it over. Best hung on a tree branch.I would highly recommend the Sea to Summit Folding Bucket. I specifically purchased this bucket to be part of a water filtration system on a multiday backpacking/light rafting trip in the Grand Canyon. The water in the both the Colorado River and the Little Colorado river are extremely high in mineral content and sediment, giving them a chocolate milk like appearance. I needed a bucket to hold the water while an added flocculant worked it's magic. The bucket and it's case are very light weight and well constructed. It is advertised as free standing and I found that to be true only if the bucket was half full or less. I found it to work best when hung from a tree. The carrying handle is very strong and had no trouble holding 20L of water and mud overnight.I would buy this product againThis is one of the best light weight foldable bucket I found. It works just as advertised. It is great for gathering water from a stream and bringing it back to the campsite with ease. I love that it stands up on its own and is durable yet so light weight. The only thing I wish it had, was some sort of lid or covering. I understand it would add a tiny bit more weight however it would be worth it. Other than that its great.I use this bag to collect water out of rivers/streams & filter this water into water bottles while bikepacking. It's much more convenient to filter water away from a riverbank.
